Oil_line Alaska Senator Tom Wagoner has introduced a bill to prevent oil companies from deducting improper maintenance repair costs. When the Petroleum Production Tax was passed last August, it made it so producersWagoner are now allowed to deduct oil and gas production costs.

If this bill passes, Wagoner says it will prevent the companies from doing just that, when they've improperly maintained their pipeline. The senator says he became concerned when corrosion in a 30-inch Prudhoe Bay pipeline caused about 200,000 gallons of oil to leak onto the tundra.

"I thought we should follow up and reintroduce this amendment as a bill amending the PPT legislation, because the State of Alaska should not, in any way, pay for the maintenance of a systemthat is not maintained properly," said Wagoner.
